33-year-old GM Wenjun Ju has been the women’s world champion since 2018. She has defended her title three times.
She started playing chess at the age of 7. Her first big result came in 2004, when she finished third in the Asian Women’s Chess Champion-ship.
In 2010 and 2014, she won the Chinese Women’s Chess Championship. In 2014, she became a GM after a number of good results, and in 2017, she won the Women’s Rapid Chess Championship, a result she repeated in 2018.
She also has a degree from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
Wenjun Ju is participating in the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament for the first time.
